I am going to be on a boat off the s devon coast. Need to have internet 3G access. Can anyone recommend which network offers the best opportunity for receiving a signal. A quick check of each individual network site suggests that 2G is most likely. Has anyone had experience they can relate? Starting out of Dartmouth and then heading west.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Iam using a Three dongle and it works allright. I have internet access at least 10 miles from shore and in every marina, I am based in Exmouth.

buy one from an online shop (not a high street shop) then you have 5 days to send it back under distance selling act without needing a reason and can therefore test it out.

if you buy in shop, cant send it back and are commited to whatever contract you agree to.

Same applied to mobile upgrades by the way, never get one in a shop, cant take it back if you dont like it.

Other option worth considering is a t-mobile dongle (would need to be a second hand one on eBay as not available out of a contract with t-mobile) then put in a PAYG sim card, they charge £1 per day max for data useage, great for boating/occasinal use.

Orange and Vodaphone 3G fine except for Vodaphone in Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers (you need to walk up out of town to the water tower before you can get a reliable signal)
they all have week spots but either will do you OK
