The earlier thread on 'Rafting' got a couple of us discussing some interesting 'alternative' options for marina berths and I thought it was worth starting a fresh thread to get people's views!

If you're not already bored with this subject, I'd be interested in your thoughts on some of the following (both when visiting or permanently berthed at a marina):

- Length is the commonest berthing factor but is it fair or just easiest to apply?
- Number of berths or actual people aboard might be a fairer reflection of facilities used (and therefore charged for)?
- Beam and the mono/cat/tri factor?
- When forced to raft, what discount (if any) would be fair for the rafted boats (considering what's fair for both the boats and marina)?
- For 'average boats' (say 25-45ft), would it be fair to charge the same price for all because each boat still uses one berth (unless it's either very small or very big) i.e. rather like a carpark which ignores the length of your car in the tarrif?
- Season-tickets for visiting your favourite haunts?
- Nautical Miles (instead of Air Miles) for frequent vistors - and what kind of service could your NMs buy e.g. a free night, or a free lift & scrub etc?

Or are all these ideas an unwelcome distraction when boating is already complicated enough?!

Cheers
Rob

I think that some of your ideas are very good but we do have a slight problem. All and i say this without exception marina owners are in buisness to make as much money as possible...they will charge what ever they can get away with.

I for one have not been back to poole since the new marina and charges were introduced.

But in the solent (where i am) if you want to go to almost anywhere you are going to have to pay.

I left the hamble and my mooring charges have changed a lot....pontoon in hamble £2300...swinging mooring in hardway £730...!!
