Took our dogs for a long walk on Saturday afternoon, Got home at 1630 to find SWMBO in high state of stress, having a go at me for leaving my mobile at home (which was deliberate). She'd had a phone call from family in Bermuda about a tsunami about to hit, and father uncontactable.
Struggling to believe it could be true, logged on to all sorts of websites - nothing. ditto CNN or BBC News 24 on telly. An hour passed of frantic searching in between periods of nervous silence. Called family again - all now well. Father located, tidal wave dispersed, life back to normal. Still nothing on the news.
Monday morning This Article appeared in the local paper, along with others today.
Basically, human fear and a very tight knit grapevine over took all semblence of control.
The whole episode just goes to prove how rapidly one person's reaction to a minor abnormality can bring an entire country, albeit small, to a standstill in a matter of minutes.
Not the best way to spend a Saturday evening.
