Following an extremely rough delivery trip from Hamble to Torquay, we found that there is a loose wire on the port side windscreen wiper. To access the motor I need to drop the headlining in the saloon. It is in two sections, port and starboard, with four screws in each section. I took out the 4 screws on the port section but it appears to be held by some sort of fixing down the middle. I pulled it down as far as I dare, but I cannot work out what type of fixing it is. I thought it may be Velcro but there seems to be oval plywood pads. Does anyone have any advice?

Oval plywood pads sounds like what carpenters call "biscuits". They are normally used for jointing, but would make good spacers which may well be their purpose on your boat. If the screws go through the biscuits, then possibly the fitters put adhesive on them as well, so you may need to prise them off.

This is guesswork though, hopefully someone will know for sure

Pretty sure it's Velcro, try to get the flat of your hand under and work it free, the headlining will have proud Velcro that sits in slots in the deck head, (minimises lateral movement and keeps things tidy. Surprisingly stiff to pull apart sometimes.

Disclaimer* don't blame me if its glue!
