I bought a jeannau prestige 38s because I could not afford a princess v42ht, the prestige has been a great boat for our needs but, I now want to go another step beyond 40 foot and I am thinking a Beneteau Monte Carlo 42.

We all know the princess is better in terms of build etc, but I am still short for the v42ht.
So let’s forget the v42 for now, my question is based on budget.

I Need a 40-44 foot sports boat with a power roof that will close at the drop of a hat when the weather turns,
Is the Beneteau Monte Carlo 42 any good?

The MC 42 is a good boat, and unusually in the 40-45ft segment has the advantage of a full beam owners cabin.
Some see that as a gimmick but it does mark it out against even the V42.

Quality wise the Beneteau is fine. Yes it is built to a lower price point than the princess but this is in furniture and finishes. Beneteau know how to build boats and are very good at it. In the sub 45ft ht sports boat market the MC42 is hard to beat.

Though it’s totally the wrong boat for you and you should buy an Itama 40...

We too had a 380s and loved it - we went on to buy a 500s but looked closely at the MC 42 and Prestige 440s of those two I prefer the 440s (glass partition to the cockpit, helm bench rather than the single seat and I also preferred the offset master cabin to the MC’s)

Similar build quality although the MC will look a little more modern, both are IPS with out drives I think and both hulls are balsa core so will need thorough inspection....

I too looked at the MC 42 but bought a Prestige 42S pretty much for the same reasons mentioned by 'Nigelpickin'. I also preferred the Prestige styling over the MC. However, I'm guessing Hullabaloo having already owned a prestige 38S, wants something different as the 38/390S and 42/440S are very similar in layout and function apart from the second heads and larger master cabin.

you got it 100%, I do like the 42 and the 440 etc, but i would feel like i have not changed boat.

good tip, thank you. i have now done my homework on this. i would be carefull.

and on that note i think my prestige 38's can go up for sale, and i will keep my eyes open for the right monte carlo 42 at the right price.
