We're doing some tidying up on a new to us Beneteau. Although the cabin is in good condition there are a few knocks and scrapes in the varnish and one or two areas where its peeled off a square inch or two. We assume it's a sprayed lacquer finish. Is there anyway of repairing the damaged areas to match the original mirror smooth finish?

I assume there are many modern boats with this finish so not an uncommin problem, but a search here didn't show up the answer.

Few years back, we used a guy called Chris Burgess to restore some damage to our boat's woodwork / lacquer. You cannot see the repairs, even if you look closely. It was a matter of filling, colouring / matching existing grain, and lacquer with sanding and polishing. Cost was very reasonable. His number is / was 07887 515412. Of course, it depends on where you are and how far he will travel...

There is a useful PDF document produced by Beneteau (USA?) on the internet entitled "Beneteau Wood Repairs". If you google that, it should come up. Mohawk products including pre catalysed lacquer are available in the UK from http://www.behlen.co.uk/
