The latch on the heads door has broken the internal spring and doesn't keep the door shut. So am looking for an alternative replacement. Found a couple of possibilities but all are around £100.....!

Anyone replaced these latches before?

Also, any tips for getting the old handle and latch off? Looks like the handle is pinned (not screwed or allen-keyed) onto the shaft. Anyone removed one of these handles - I could drill it out, I suppose, or hammer it out. Either way will need a new pin of the same dimensions. Any easy way to remove the handle?

If you can get the old one out without damage then it should be relatively easy to replace the spring. I've just done it on one of my doors. The latch is about 40 years old so is 'maintainable'. The spring was made from 'piano wire' which is available on e-bay. Fabricating the spring was very easy.

Ive had mine apart, as others have said, knock the pins out, they arent that difficult to get out. I used a nut and bolt as a pin afterwards, 3mm by 25mm, I e just measured it.
