Ive read a few members on this board have been looking forward to seeing this boat so i thought id post this first look video tour of the Beneteau Grand Trawler 62 i found on YouTube

I really like this boat. The layout is fantastic with his contemporary trawler style interior

It’s a strange boat because (apparently) displacement only yet it is only got a B certification

Leading entry for the Ugly Boat Of The Year award ...... ?
Not seen many fishing trawlers with so many square windows on the hull sides.

But a serious point, aren’t that number of windows a major source of weakness in the hull sides, and a future source of expensive problems from any bumpy berthings - or even gales when berthed, with badly placed fenders?

These boat are only CE Certification - B

If you want to smash your boat into the docks then buy a Nordhavn

Agreed, it looks hideous from the outside, whereas some of the smaller Bennys look quite attractive. I don’t think it will age well.
It has a look that is in keeping with all the other large lifestyle trawlers. So they either all get ugly together or not

Not sexy but practical. And looks are subjective anyway.

Depends what the owner wants the boat for i guess.

Spending weeks away at a time on a trawler or pretending your a Miami Vice drugs lord on a Sunseeker Predator

If Pearl built a semi-displacement hull i wouldve ordered one a year ago. I love the Kelly Hoppen interiors

how do you clean those 12 horizontal recessed windows ? At least the Absolute had 2 large ones and flush, you could imagine cleaning them from the bow.

A Navetta 52 would do me. Unfortunately the wife says no more boats ☹️

You seem to think that CE certification has something to see with the boat strength. If so, think again.
The one and only reason why these boats are cat.B designed is to save costs.
Coupled with the fact that their mktg dept. knows very well that they are just "lifestyle" trawlers, as Bouba correctly called them.
That is, boats which practically all buyers will use as floating caravans and for some coastal cruising in fair weather.
Consequently, they couldn't care less about the boat inherent stability and so forth.

Not that behind the decision to go for cat.A there's anything else than cost/marketing considerations, mind.
Some builders went that route for boats which you can only laugh (or better said, cry) at the thought of affording 4+ m waves, like the one below.
But they simply thought it was worth to spend a bit more for a sticker which - in their opinion - could have some attraction.

Bottom line, everyone and their dog can build cat.A boats, it's just a matter of forking out a bit more money (not even a lot, just a bit, AFAIK) for the initial design, and for a few bits and bobs during construction.
I'm pretty sure that also Beneteau could do that easily, if they wanted to.
Which says it all, really... ;)

Call yourself lucky.
I can't think of how to better explain what "dodging a bullet" is all about, than avoiding any IPS powered boat. o_O
Thank you for looking on the bright side?? The Beneteau Grand Trawler 62 does have a very nice engine and drive train set up?
