Hi chaps,

I fancy something a bit more racy and these seem to go for reasonable money. Can't find much on google about them...anybody got any experiences, good or bad? In particular suitability for something like AZAB.

Cheers,
Nick

I know the first class 8, this was nothing more than a 505 dinghy with a lid on!!!! a great fun boat and very fast but would not like to venture too far off shore, but then I guess an extra 2mtr may make all the differance!!

I looked at one a while ago. They are very similar to a 3/4 tonner. Very tweaky rig. I can't remember if the spreaders were swept back at all. It certainly had runners and checkstays. Not much inside, as you would expect for a race boat. Might be a bit of a handful short handed for the AZAB

I take issue with that comment! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Our First Class 8 is a terrific sea boat, if a little wet. We have taken her well offshore double handed many times too, as have many many others.

Until pogo's, zero's etc came on the scene they were used for all manner of offshore voyages. One of our racing crew brought his from Bordeaux to Brest in one hop single handed, and an associate of ours spent 6 weeks cruising the windward islands in one with 3 other blokes! They are still raced offshore too, afaik there is still a FC8 race from mainland Spain to the Balaerics.

They also do quite well as livaboards too! (5 weeks down, 3 to go!!)

As for the FC10, great boat, super fast, not for the faint hearted however!
