When I bought my 31.7 I got a load of data that said her AVS was over 130 deg and STIX was almost 32. But if you look at IMS rated 31.7s (so they use software to predict the stability data from other measurements) the figure for AVS is a mere 109. A big difference. Does anyone know either how to get the true number or why IMS would under (I hope) estimate AVS. Also does anyone know how to get polar data for this boat since even Finot the designers seem not to have kept it.

The IMS number is probably on account of the reduced ballast ratio they run with for rating purposes. Talked with a well known racer at LIBS who had recently got his boat back from an IMS charter to spain - she had been optimised by removing 500kg of lead. Last year in the solent the IMX40 and Synergias were running around with wooden spacers, and small keels.

I loathe rating rules that create artificially slow, expensive and bad tempered boats.
