I intend to replace the standing rigging on my Beneteau Clipper 311 this winter and went up the mast this weekend to have a look. The cap shrouds look like this where they enter the mast --

but it apears that the mast cap would have to be removed to insert new shrouds from inside the mast ? there is a small hole on both sides of the mast just above the fittings but these are empty. Any ideas how the cap shrouds are replaced.
Thanks
Pete

From what I could see there is a stainless steel bulb shaped cup inserted from inside the mast that you can see protruding with a hole in it that the shroud comes through. I assume that there is a ball on the end of the shroud. Looking at the picture now it looks like the bulb could perhaps be pushed in and twisted 90 degrees and then come out of the oval shaped hole in the mast complete with the shroud but when I was up the mast it did not look likely.

This is either a Z Spar or Sparcraft mast, they still use this type of rigging attachment! Some are fitted with one rivet but as in your picture the tension on the wire holds the fitting in place/ As has been mentioned easy to remove once tension off the rigging. The Forestay and backstay may have a similar swage stemball on the top but they will go through a hole in the head box.
