The new(ish) Beneteau Barracuda 9.

26.2' Hull Length, 3000Kg displacement, powered by either one x 300hp outboard or 2 x 200hp outboards. Top speed 45 knots with 2 x 200hp.

Could anyone take a guess what the expected MPG might be, flat out and cruising at say 25 knots?

3 litres an hour at 25 knts????

That's about 18mpg. Dream on mate.

I reckon consumption closer to about 3litre/nm is closer to the truth, with wot being more like 7-8litre/nm.

In per hour terms, I reckon you are looking at about 75litres/hour at a good cruise, 150-175litres/hour at full chat

I should say those figures are for dual engine, combined and consumption will always depend on Sea state and boat condition

No matter what boat and engine, the fuel used depends on the work done.

Petrol engines burn 227 to 273 grams of fuel pr. kWh
Turbo Diesel burn 178 to 209 grams of fuel pr. kWh

If you demand 200 hp from your diesel it wil burn 35600 to 41800 grams of fuel per hour.

Since diesel's density is 0.832 kg/l this converts to 42.79 to 50.24 liter per hour.

Ofcourse you need to know how many hp you use to calculate your specific consumption, but knowing that burn at full performance is X liters draws attention to habbits when out..
