There goes a perfectly good slipway. Hope he has lifting keels, gets a bit shallow close in at LW.

Looks like slipway is still there, but will it remain public?

Yes, we have been assured by Portsmouth City Council, who own all the land there, that it will remain public and accessible throughout.

As a Victory Class sailor, we welcome this development and the attention that it will bring to "our" part of the Solent and Portsmouth.

Considering the restrictions on unengined sailing boats in the entrance of Portsmouth Harbour...and the numerous ferries and Grey Funnel Line vessels coming and going...

...and the constricted little cul-de-sac which is the proposed site, and the sheer scale and unusual proportions of the sailboats that will be based there...

...isn't this pricey little project completely barmy?

That's good to know, another question - how do the fishing boats and pleasure boats squeeze past those bluidy tri's?

Dan,

sadly they're far more likely to be hassled by IOW ferries and QHM than the few remaining grey funnel jobs !

The magazine ' Warships IFR - International Fleet Review - keeps banging on about all the resources going to the RAF, and I reckon they're right; soon we'll be relying on Wayfarers with paintball guns to protect our shores !

That is a question that many of us have asked and are unclear of the answer. IOW ferries, fishing boats, RIBs and yachties all in a very small space with large expensive multihulls could be interesting!

Think of that...good to know the Wayfarer Black Ops boys will be able to get right round the British realm in barely more than a month! ;)

Yes, I can see a bit of friction between fishermen/yachties/leisure usersand the Ainslie mob and have this uncomfortable feeling that this is the thin edge of the wedge for the camber becoming er yachtified shall we say.

I also believe their is a public right of way around the camber.

Interesting times ahead I think.

Whilst being all for this project I'd personally like to see it in the dockyard where there's more room (even dry docks) and safer access to the main channel.

The Americas cup boats are going to be 62 feet long. Hardly even large compared to most of the traffic. Also, odds are once the team get their big boat they'll probably spend their time at the location the cup will be raced or some other suitable training ground if the season doesn't suit. Chances are the only boats the team will have in Portsmouth will be Ac42's which are even more diminutive.

A copy of the Planning Report can be found here:- http://democracy.portsmouth.gov.uk/documents/s3861/Planning%20Application%201400489FUL%20The%20Camber%20East%20Street.pdf

There appears to be the proposal to put a pontoon on the north side of the Camber, opposite the Wighlink terminal. That'll be fun to negotiate when the WL layby berth is being used!

Also I fancy the residents of the Gunwharf development by the ferry terminal will be quite vocal in their objections. They kicked up alarmingly when the new ferry, St Clare, arrived owing to it's increased height over the existing boats.
