Yes, the BBC made an hour documentary on 7 wonders of the modern world and included the Bell Rock. Stunning how they only had a few hours a day for a few months of the year to actually build the thing. Then the jigsaw type bricks that were brought from the mainland and fitted perfectly to build such a strong structure.
Could you imagine in todays quick fix society someone offering to build a relatively small building and its gonna take 4 years plus. We might also expect to lose a few builders along the way.
Credit to Stevenson I say, we don't seem to have any 'big' engineers in the world today, I blame the schools for beating it out of people before they get laid off at 16 yrs old!
I would much rather admire an engineer or scientist than how the press expects me to look up to celebrities, who choose a trade because they are failing at everything else, they could not even get into art college!
The only trade IMO lower than an actor is the oldest one!
Remember reading a book on the Stevensons some years ago (was called The Lighthouse Stevensons if I recall correctly) - was very interesting and, of course, included the Bell Rock. Well worth a read if not already done so.
Do not have a copy unfortunately - was loaned to me, by a Scotsman, of course /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.
