Had some ingrained brown stains on the stern which nothing would shift. Searched through a few lockers to see what I'd got and found a bottle of this stuff. It says it removes stains with no rubbing - "Yeah! Right!" I thought, but gave it a go as it suggests wearing rubber gloves.

Comes out of the bottle like wallpaper paste, spread it over the stains and leave for a few minutes, rinse off - Worked a treat and, on closer reading of the bottle, it contains oxalic acid.

Also used it to get some rust stains of the shower room floor - sparkling.

10 quid a litre

Agreed, but it was bloody handy to find it, and I'm guessing that storage of oxalic acid may be an issue, as would the mixture once made up - if you didnt use it all and wanted to keep it..

Anyway - some people may find it handy to know.

[/ QUOTE ] It's toxic of course so it must be properly labelled and kept where children cannot get it. Solutions are acidc but it is not a strong acid. Sturdy plastic containers with a tight fitting lids would be suitable for both the solid and potions prepared from it.

Safety data here

I bought some Y10 from Mailspeed when I was last in England. I'm sure I brought it to the boat, but I've looked everywhere and cant find it.... but during one of the searches, up popped the Gel Kleen.

Local Chandlers tell me that Bell Gel Kleen is no longer available - Bell have pulled out of the marine market apparently. If you use it, like it and can find it; then buy it now!

Strong enough to take the glaze off our bath!

[/ QUOTE ] Oh yes but not as quickly as a strong acid like hydrochloric acid would have done. Don't use anything acidic on an enamelled bath.
