and peeps talk to me, anyway , I have been in a few marinas now and have always seen in them at least one boat , that is a "do er up a" . the last time I managed to talk to an owner of one, well I actually knocked on his wheel house door and as I had seen him with a cub of tea and it was 7.30 am , and after sleeping on a new boat with nothing on it I was kind of desperate for a cupper, well after he had recovered from the shock, he was the harbour master /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif and I had spoken to him the night before to tell him I was sleeping on the boat, so he was not a total stranger, he made me a very large cup of tea and asked me to step aboard. He even fed me some toast. It was a lovely Old classic gentleman's motor launch , about 45ft ish, good sea going hull with the high slightly sweeped out bow. he was living on it and had brought it as "a do er up a", he had reckoned that it would take him 4 months to do, Now that was 3 years ago he said, /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.

So would you have a go at a "do er up a",?

we have seen wiggos super dooper new interior, and heard about Hlb new bits.
and how much would you be prepared to do?, or have you done.?

I am sure you did. But you were naked in the same sentence that you knocked on the harbour master's door!

But, to answer your question, I cannot even drill holes in my boat to wire up the radio, so ripping out large quantities of it to re-build, is just not going to happen.

I admire them that do.

Never again...when I bought PT all the woodwork was done, but there was no paint, no dash, no doors or locker lids, windows out, deck fittings off, rudders out, shafts out, all sorts, took me 10 months full time (no job) to finish, that ws 5 years ago and she's doing ok...never again.....except I am doing it again...

Took on a Sealine 285 in November. Drives knackered, transom plates pitted, couple of minor bits of damage and the interior I later found needed re-lining etc. Took out the petrol V8'S and have put in Volvo 41b's new transom plates and duo-prop drives. Re-wired and new charging system thanks to KDD. Every water pipe and connection replaced etc.
Too many jobs to list but on the way to a good machine in the water for March. Waiting for the new covers, fed up with getting dripped on.
Not the same as a wooden project but loads of work none the less. Thing is at the end of it, it is my boat, I know all the systems, if anything fails I will have a good idea what it is and it will only be my fault if it does go wrong.
Most satisfying thing I have done for years and would relish another project in a couple of years time.

our last boat was a Sealine 285 which had been neglected, needed interior srtipped and re fitted due to damp and serious neglect, also had a mistery fault with the engines, AD31's. 6 months work new upholstery in and out and a miracle oring for the turbo and wey hey we had a fab second boat!

Did the same with our last house...not so sure I would do that one again!

Bought a house, it was the gardner's cottage but you couldn't get into the garden without a machette, fitted a bathroom, a shower room, a beautiful fireplace, stripped all the floors, redecorated, extended, built one of the most amazing kitchens you can imagine, knocked some interior walls down, built a conservatory - Welsh slate floor with underfloor heating, you would hardly believe the transformation from run down tied cottage to lovely family home.

The ex is now very happy there, and I am very happy where I am.

Have scraped enough together to buy a 27 year old mobo that smokes worse than a stressed Frenchman with a pregnant girlfriend, but she's mine, mine, mine, and I am really looking forward to sprucing her up a bit (c:

I'm the worst mug I've ever come accross for saving old boats.
At the moment I've got a 41ft 1946 Osbourne that I'm rebuilding. I'm putting a completely new hull on her and its all because I got fed up with people saying she couldn't be saved.
Still..... it keeps me out of trouble. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
