Starting a new thread, please ignore the previous post advertising the Beer and Natter for the 1st week of June, this date has changed to the 1st July to coincide with the cycle ride being organised in this thread: http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthrea...-jolly-around-the-Island-in-June-on-our-bikes

For those who've never been to a Beer and Natter, it's an informal gathering of like minded folk irrespective of what mode of water borne transport you prefer, we've had a great mix of yacht and motorboat owners attending in the past.. The onus is on getting together having a glass or three of whatever takes your fancy, nattering the night away and having a bite to eat if you fancy it. There's regular attendees and invariably a few new faces, its a great way of getting to meet those behind the keyboards and form friendships in the process of doing so.

If you fancy attending, reply to this thread with your name together with the name(s) of those that will attend with you so I can add you to the list and I'll do the rest of the arranging keeping you all updated as the finer details get firmed up over the coming weeks and months.

The date for your diaries is 1st July, Venue is proposed as Yarmouth subject to me contacting them and venue is proposed as Salites, again subject to me contacting them to book a table.

Please do let me know if you have other options in mind and please do also let me know asap if you would like to join us so I have an idea of numbers.

All the best

Gary

This is the weekend of the Round the Island yacht race, not sure how this will effect the berthing plans, hopefully not much but should be able to get a good vantage point for spectating.
I'll be around but Helen is doing the non-stop walk round the Island this weekend.

Helen will need to keep her eyes peeled for cyclists in a hurry then Collin :D

Put me and the missus down as a maybe.. Need to see if she a) wants to come and b) can book the day off to make she she isn't scheduled in to work..

I have missed the last few of these so will be good to catch one.. :)

Hi all, I've put a call into Yarmouth Harbour and advised to speak to the deputy Harbour Master on Monday regarding reserving a few berths, I'll do so and report back.

I've booked us a table upstairs in Salty's for 9:30pm to make absolutely sure those cycling get back in time and the music will have started by then so it'll give us a bit of atmosphere to dine to. I've requested two tables are adjoined that'll seat at least 20 Beer and Natterers.

Important Bit for now: I need to make a deposit of £5 per head to secure the Salty's booking given it is a Saturday night in peak season and the Round The Island weekend. I am happy to do so out of my own pocket so long as I get the firm commitments from anyone attending or you'll see me alright if you need to cancel i.e. you pay the £5 to me or find a replacement attendee.

I'll update on Monday after speaking with the harbour folk and will update the front page over the weekend with those that have expressed an interest in attending so far.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD - the more the merrier ! :) :) :)

cheers Gary

Only 1 L Anddy

The long boring answer is probably not as the walk follows the coastal path and the overall distance can vary according to the tide between StHelens and Seaview, but I think it's around 75 miles The cycle route follows the road (I presume) and is about 65 miles.
We'll probably take the car over for the weekend so I can help with water drops and as injuries aren't unknown, pick up any fallen walker's or cyclists. Also if anyone wants a good view of the Round The Island we search out some good viewing spots.

The short answer is no.

:)

Would love to join you all, but at that time we have planned to be on a summer cruise on the baltic.

Gary: just out of interest, are you still able to edit the first post?

Have fun in the Baltic, look forward to the pictures on your return. Good spot regarding the editing of the first page, used to be able to do this but it appears changes have been made to the forum software and I no longer have the option to do so after a day or so, so I'll need to keep the list updated in the latest posts instead.

Here's the latest list

That's 7 confirmed so far, we're going to need more if we're going to keep the table at Salty's don't be shy guys and gals, get your names down :)

Gary, 9.30 is very late to be eating, especially after the ride, where we will probably be quite ravenous. If we assume 9 hours worst case for the ride, inc some good stops, then we should be back around 6 pm. A shower and a couple of slurps will take us to 7.30. Is 8 or 8.30 too early for nosh?

Sorry Gary, had missed the earlier one. Rafiki + 1 for the earlier one please. Just that at my advancing age, eating too late is a bad idea

Could those planning to take their boats to Yarmouth 30 June/1 July please let me know soonest please. I am going to try to negotiate a deal as a "rally", and need between 5 and 10 boats to do so. Where are the best moorings at Yarmouth? Apologies, have only been there on a ferry so far

Paul Please put us down for a berth (32'), but not sure about the meal, likely happy with just the beer and natter.

The moorings outside the HM office are the best, but they only have a limited number available book on a one off ad hoc basis. I guess they may allow a separate group booking.

@rafiki_ - Put us down for a berth.. 7m boat but minimum charge in most marinas is usually 8m, not sure if Yarmouth is the same.. Just to confirm is the plan to arrive on Saturday 1st July and leave Sunday?

@oGaryo - In preference we would prefer an earlier meal.. If it's an issue for the majority we might just grab a bite and meet up for the natter..

We plan to cycle on the Saturday, so will arrive Friday evening, ready for a 9 ish start, planning to be back at Yarmouth late afternoon. Rafiki will be there for the 2 nights, Friday and Saturday. I think others are planning the same. Any non cyclists are welcome to arrive at their convenience, ready for the Saturday evening beer/dinner and natter.

What with the evening meal being the most difficult thing (in my experience anyway) could an alternative be a bbq or a communal cook up and eat alfresco or on board, some of the boats will be rafted so it will still be a good social gathering
