These are informal events, a chance to meet other members of the Forum for a general chin wag. We've had people arrive by boat, plane and automobile in the past so all welcome. The usual thing in the past has been to choose a marina and try and book a section for a rallye and book a venue for an evening meal. This time it's going to be more difficult as dredging is starting on the 8th October so the Dan Bran is out of service. We could approach the Haven or Berthon but we need an idea of numbers of boats intending to turn up.
Can we have an idea of numbers please and also suggestions for the evening gathering?

If we’re going for a Solent gathering might it be an idea to choose a more central location?

In the past we’ve done the Hamble. Particularly if Lymington is undergoing works that make it harder for people to visit by boat. We’ve had to stop visiting Lymington for pleasure now there are no longer any moorings for larger boats around the town quay. A shame as I used to love it on the mid river pontoon tendering ashore.

Boats are currently limited to 12m which in the motor boat world essentially means no British built boats !

We’ve done Murcury before and that has the advantage of a campsite. And lots of parking.
Or the harbour master’s pontoons in the hamble have the advantage of being cheap.
The island has lots of choice including east cowes. Plenty of us to ferry over those coming by road.
Or Gunwharf or even port solent with plenty of places to eat.
If Lymington has a 12m limit it doesn’t deserve our business. And it’s not great to get to by road.
I intend to come and am happy anywhere.

I agree, it's a great shame. And there are now only spaces for 4 visiting boats on the trots (at least one of which is usually taken up by a long term 'Visitor'

When the venu is finally decided upon I suggest starting a new thread as the current title will put people off who think Lymington is too far or too much hassle to get to.

I wouldn’t suggest Gunwharf / Port Solent as I think we need a venue that we can take over a bit more. What is there pub wise at Mercury?

How would people feel about opening it up to the Facebook Solent boating group?

Pub wise at Mercury, we have the onsite restaurant or we go into Hamble (I've had the Whyte Hart suggested by PM as they have a function room we can take over).
It does seem as though there's interest developing amongst members here, and I also see a lot of members here have emigrated to the FB group. Coordination could be a nightmare, but be good to see some of the old faces again

I don’t and won’t use Facebook. So we need someone who can do both to coordinate.

The good thing about Hamble is there are lots of marinas in dinghy/paddle board distance. Whyte hart is a dinghy and a walk though.

Would be really worth talking to the royal southern. Any who is a member? I’m thinking of joining.

I can post on Facebook to co-ordinate.

Ultimately I wouldn’t worry about trying to placate Facebook members in terms of specific requests, rather say this event is happening, feel free to pop over. I think there is quite a lot of crossover between groups.

We will probably be arriving by car as the boat is going up for sale shortly.
