Subject to Emily's exams and charters that sounds like a plan. Will have to play it by ear but you're right, we haven't met up with the boats for ages.

Henry :)

Given it's Old Gaffers weekend and impossible to get your boat into the harbour unless you arrive mid week might it be an idea to re-arrange the beer & natter and have a separate meeting for people going to the festival? You won't be able to just pop along in your boat for the day or night and being on the Island not practical for driving.

Henry :)

H are you suggesting changing the marina or date or both?

If it's an Old Gaffers meet up then neither.

If it's a general beer & natter then certainly the date so as not to exclude people going to the festival.

Sounds to me like two events, an Old Gaffers catch up for the Morris dancers amongst us like Andy ;) and a separate beer & natter.

Gary's in the driving seat though so I will bow to his intellectual genius :)

Henry :)

It's probable you'd be able to get a booking in Yarmouth if you contact them now, HM and DHM very good at berth allocation, vast improvement on when I tried to organise a rally there about 10 years ago.

We're already booked in for gaffers with our Hardy 42.

Disclosure - I'm one of the Harbour Commissioners, but definitely posting in a private capacity.

Asked about booking on saturday and was told there are only 10 bookable berths ( all taken ) so turn up early to be sure of a space on a first come , first served basis . We have done this previously to be fair .

Could I also suggest an idea for a second shorter cycle route for those of us who may find a RTI a little daunting?
Yep, great idea.
Full RTI is 65 miles, much of it bumpy on the south coast so probably about 6-7 hours to ride, plus a couple of stops, so maybe 7-8 hours in total. A little daunting for some, where a 2-3 hour ride might suit better? If you Google IoW cycle rides, there are several that appear.

OK, let's try that again from the laptop instead of the mobile which randomly deletes stuff ;)

Henry, good shout and we've changed the date to the 1st July (Saturday) subject to me giving Yarmouth a bell to see if we can reserve a few berths. I'll also check out Salties for the same date.

Col, how about this, you join us from Newport / Cowes area subject to final route planning leaving your boat in its home berth in Cowes. You kipp on one of the boats in Yarmouth after attending the B and N and then hitch a lift back to Cowes complete with your steed (bicycle) on one of the boats heading back to Soton on the Sunday e.g. mine. I'll post more about the cycle ride in the other thread and keep this one Beer and Natter focused.

So, usual format when arranging such things, focus on beer and natterings with the option of an informal bite to eat for those that want to... who's up for a Beer and Natter in Salties 1st July ? Reply to this thread please and I'll keep a tally of those interested on the first page.

In fact, don't reply to this thread :) :) :) Going to need to start a new thread, this time without a date in the subject line as I don't appear to be able to change it
