We finally managed to get down to the boat this weekend after an 11 week absence, and spent a blowy night aboard.

I had to fit the new (replacement ) Northstar instruments, fit and seal the new Vetus raw water filter, and do all the pre season jobs and checks.

Happily, I can report that nothing went wrong, and all proceeded at a slow pace due to my recovering back and wrist injuries.

My main worry was that the boat would be full of water again, always a worry. Well, there was about 1/2 a gallon or less, and that was probably from where I was bleeding the raw water system last time onboard.

Nice to see that even though we haven't had a dehumidifier onboard this year, nothing was unduly damp or mouldy, so the extra mushroom vents look like they are working correctly.

Heater fired up, nice and toasty, which only showed up the condensation in the VHF. left that on for 24 hours, and all gone now.

Next we went through all the lockers and pulled out everything, and, happy to report, we found a couple of hidden bottles of red wine. Fab. Sad to report, Shock, Horro, and for the first time, NO WHISKY on baord Full Circle. Desolee.

Still, I went out into cockpit and fitted the new Northstars, and hooked them up to the raymarine NMEA interface, and the JRC Radar/Chartplotter. Astoundingly, given the previous history of this setup, it lit up first time. Double bloody blimey.

Also went round changing all the batteries and checking dates on everything. Next year is a major for us, as we have all the extinguishers, the EPIRB battery and the flares to replace.

Water system emptied and water replaced dropping a dozen or so Aquatabs in to clean it all out.

Vreny, Mr Vreny and AJ Vreny turned up to get out of the cold, and stayed for lunch, which was very pleasant, while I got the raw water system sealed of air leaks. The engine fired up first compression after 2 months idle, and the water burbled out the back. All this success is going to my head.

Lynn did her whirling dervish act cleaning all the lockers, the furniture, and managed to frighten the cooker into disaasembling itself so she could clean it properly.

Then it peed down, and 33 knots of chuff blew the rain into the companionway, so we waited for it to go away, and packed up.

Utterly brilliant weekend, even if we didn't actually go anywhere.

I now need a good day to do a bit of gelcoat filler, and to clean the teak bits, and scrub the decks.

I have decided to come out in May for a scrub and re antifoul, and replace the anodes, so we can go sailing when we have a little more calm weather.

Hurrah.

No whisky ???? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Surely a situation worthy of immediate pan pan ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We didnt actually drink the whisky but did manage two bottles of claret....

Thank.....YOU /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Seems more than one of us had a good weekend fettling....delivered the liferaft and jackets for very overdue services, ordered some new flares .....I didnt check the dates when i got the original lot but some only had one years date on them!!!!!!, fixed the tap, took off the old knackered horns ready for the new arrivals, moved the pontoon cleets to stop the chaffing on the gel, realised the new generator is too big for the anchor locker (so need another plan for storing it) ate all morgana's bacon, found my season ticket onboard after i thought i had spilled part of the contents of my wallet in some dodgy pub in Ipswich, looked at my planned trip to the solent and calculated the approximate fuel costs /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

then went home to a mountain of ironing....

I need to sort out the crap being deposited on the topsides from the building site next to the marina....if i leave it much longer the boat will be black...not white....it was suggested i be moved elsewhere....but i have a nice wide berth so not much bumpy against the adjacent boat.
Lift out, antifoul and polish the sides for the first time since new to be fitted in....probably before solent trip....

And a seriously long letter to write to Mr Sealine /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
He wont be happy.....

Excellent news!

I too had a fettling weekend....

Pretty much finished insulating the Eberspacher piping, and measured up and contemplated plenty for the eventually locations of recently acquired watermaker and SSB radio and associated wiring and plumbing.....

After the excellent company of Mr 3 Bottles and Mr Chellers on Sat evening, I didn't get as much done on Sunday as planned, but did sit and stare at a bulkhead a fair bit.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We also had a great weekend doing nothing thats because i spent the week converting the un used pilot berth to additional storage space, fitted new bilge pump and skin fitting along with water witch auto switch which has no moving parts, now have two electric and on manual.

New kicker blocks and warp

Removed paneling in the heads to check state of the pipework for the loo and to add shower drain, discovered tht the heads inlet sea cock has two hoses and is a two position handle.
After a bit of fiddling found out that switched one way works as normal draws in sea water to flush the loo and when switched the other it draws shower waste up through the strum box and hose in the shower drain and dumps it out through the loo (kenw the strum box and pipe was there but thought it was no connected)
So a result no pump, wiring required and bonus is can flush the loo with fresh water if we are leaving it for a while.

Not seen a loo plumbed like that before but seems a good solution to me.

Glad you are all prepared now. Next time we'll see you actually sailing, perhaps!

It sounds as if we may have been the only ones sailing. We managed a long sail (8.5 hours) on Saturday - out to look at the windfarm and back. Halfway back it got a bit windy, which allowed us to test our new reefing-lines-back-to-the-cockpit system, which worked beautifully!

Super weekend.

Very inspirational Jim.

After a weekend pottering about at home - lots of paperwork and bill paying /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif lots of mucking out of house /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif shopping /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif laundry /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif and other boring chores, I am in a position to report that I am getting to be considerably more mobile than before.

On the optimistic presumption that this improvement will continue during this week, I am making plans to visit BR this weekend and make a start on the jobs list. TA RAAAA! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have been working on Sirenia yet again.

Still chipping away at getting the old paint of the decks, cabin and cockpit.
Couldn't do much to that over the weekend as the next 2.5ltrs of paint stripper that I had ordered from Marinestore last Sunday with a follow up phone call on Monday to confirm quick delivery has yet to arrive /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Started soring out a new wiring loom for the engine.

I also carried out the basic installation of an alarm system .
The system has 4 separate alarm circuits, 4 output circuits to switch on things, 4 gauge circuits that can monitor most things, a mobile phone that will phone you if an alarm is triggered, send you a text if a gauge hits a trigger point and can be requested to send a text with all available data including Lat, Long, Heading & Speed if a GPS is wired into the system.
Once it is all sorted I will be able to start the heating on the way to the boat so that things are nice and warm when we get on board.
I will also get a warning if the new electric bilge pumps are triggered.
I am still working out the wiring for most of those features.

I have been struggling to get the existing Navman Transducers to talk to the new NX2 instrument system.
I am told that it will work and have a wiring diagram to show me how to connect them up but that is not working.
Tried a new log transducer that is proved to work with a Navman instrument but no luck.
My Mate has taken the whole lot to work to get one of their boffins to look at it.

Sunday afternoon was family time with a chance to play with the Granddaughter and have a big roast dinner.

A good weekend all in all.

I am also getting closer to re-launch.

The rudder is back on. The man who I was going to give large amounts of euros to said it only needed a bottom bearing and the rudder itself was OK.
Newly varnished tiller is back on. I have worked out that tiller pilots must have grown. as the old location points are in the wrong place so will need moving /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Second coat of Aunty Fowlin is on; just need to do the boot topping.

I intend to do more cruising than racing this year so am making the interior of Moondancer more comfortable. I now have shorepower. Not bad in a 24 footer! I am having to paint the ceiling as the current paint/coating is flaking of in a horrible white powder wherever there has been condensation.

Only jobs left are to chase down a couple of small rainwater leaks into the bilges, from a stanchion, I think, to fit some cup and plate holders, a spring clean, antifoul and most importantly to fit some new cockpit dodgers that Bernie is making.

Photo to follow.

Brian.
