I am about to fit new Perspex window panes into their rebates in a mahogany coachroof. There are no holes drilled in them; they are simply kept in placed by a surrounding s/s bezel, screwed to the coachroof sides and sealed by a bedding compound.

I have scraped out the rebates back to bare wood and applied a sealing coat of epoxy. I intend to use clear CT1 as the bedding compound.

Question:

Some of the bedding compound will be squeezed out when the bezel is screwed in place. Should I:

a) let this set and trim off the surplus with a sharp blade; or

b) clean off the surplus straight away using a rag and solvent? (If so, what solvent should I use that won't damage the perspex?)

Put masking tape on the abutting area, then run a sharp blade over it when set and peel off the tape along with any excess CT1, I would worry about solvent, even the stuff sold by CT1 (CT1 Multisolve spray) which is very good at getting the stuff off by the way, but maybe you could try it on a scrap bit of perspex that you have applied some CT1 to.

I think Butyl tape will be more appropriate.CT1 ia a great adhesive/saelant but IMO it only works on stable surfaces.Wood moves and as such a srong adhesive doesn't seem to me to be the best solution.Butyl tape on the other hand is more elastic and will conform to a wooden substrate much better
