Ok its not a boat but same design needed. I am going to put a double bed in the van but quite high up so what can i use to make it to keep the weight down.
Have just been thinking of a frame with a sheet of kingspan insulation board?

Someone recommended the IKEA system a while ago.

Looks like a good system at 13.5 kg for a single one.

Kingspan wouldn't have the strength for the job and the metallic skin would stop moisture escaping.

A frame of Aluminium angle with pine slats would do the job. 2x1 on 4" centres would do the job if you add a central longitudinal slat underneath, screwed to all the transverse battens to spread any point loads.

Sorted.... the Ikea bed is perfect size so now bolting several joist hangers on for various heights.
