Hello

Just wondering if anyone has come up with any ingenious ideas or methods to add a bit more space or size to an aft bed? The one in mind is a port size aft bed thats a bit tight.

Also, has anyone done any interesting galley mods or additions to improve ergonomics in a tight galley?

Cheers

Not the galley, but I turned a chart table 90 degrees and did away with the seat. It made the space between the chart table and galley bigger, increased storage space and made a larger, flat top on the new chart table. This meant that the small galley, traditional u shape had a new table top to work on. It is also used a a work top for anything else.

Note in my case, old boat, narrow beam, turn of the hull, the seat was useless at the standard arrangement.

In the aft cabin, infill pieces extended the width. My aft cabin had two bunks down each side, joined at the foot and a half infill, seat base between bunks. Adding a new infill in front of the half infill made a larger double. Obvious in my case.

I widened forward bunk by loosing part of a locker. Added just over 3" to the bunk width that made a lot of difference and didn't miss the amount lost in the locker.

Some pictures of your set up would help.

I once trimmed down a chart table leaf so that you could slip/walk past it while it was up. The convenience was worth more than the small loss in table area. I added a small fold-up leaf in the galley next to the fridge, which really helped with meal prep.

(I made the chart table leaf and the galley leaf from a Scan bookshelf parts, which matched the interior, saving the old leaves for the new owner. I saw the boat a month ago, after 10 years with the new guy, and he is still using the smaller leaves.)

That’s very much like ours, is that a moody 419/422? We find it ours ok - made much better comfier with the addition of ikea slats and proper mattress instead of standard thin foam.

You could look to go transverse bed to make it bigger, but big project and the ability to stand and get dressed in a civilised manner would be degraded. Great line of boats though.
