If you can sing a song of serious intent and persuade the current owner you are not just going to break her up there is a part-restored Stella going for free up in Dundee.
Yes she requires a bit of work but it is all manageable and you will end up with a real beauty. See the Stella class association website if you need more information on these Kim Holman classic cruiser/racers (www.stellasail.org.uk)

Toucan is no. 62. Stored under cover in Dundee. Restoration started, but family and work factors mean that her owner cannot now continue with the project. Anybody wanting to take her on would need to organise lifting and transport.

PM me and I will put you in touch with the current owner.

Not much response but one person has expressed an interest so there is hope Toucan will not become an exotic fuelled bonfire. Burning mahogany is a sin and it would be a great shame to see a readily restorable boat die just because the barn space it occupies is needed for something else. Toucan's demise was/is very close.
It seems to me a couple of years back all this was less likely and many much more challanging boats were being fought over and exchanged (for money)! What's the difference now I wonder...
Is it the economic climate?
Is it Toucan's size - 26' too small?
Is the market flooded with half restored boats going for nothing?
Is it Toucan's current location - Dundee is a long way away?

Either way I hope prospective new owner manages to arrange a successful handover and if so wish him every luck with the path back to the water. When Toucan rejoins the healthy number of other Stellas cruising and racing around Britain/Holland/Belgium I am sure she will repay the effort in spades!

She looks like she is well worth the work and I hope she finds a new custodian.
In regard to the difficulty in passing on these boats I have noticed the same thing and I am not sure why it is. It seems it is only a few years ago that an opportunity like this would be snapped up.
It is surprising that a boat like a Stella, with a good number remaining and an active owners association, isn't more sought after. My guess is that it is mainly due to the economic factors. Have the Stella Association been any help? Report back if the potential new owner doesn't acquire her.

Dundee, says so in original post :)

Think the point that Nick is making is that unless you have your own transport it is the thick end of £1k (plus the cost of getting there to view it) if you want it darn sarf. Heavy, when you can get a good up and running example for £5-7k!

Rather narrows the market, even if it is free.

Song's a good'un

Delighted to say one of the forum members has reached an agreement to take Toucan back to Essex and will be getting her seaworthy and hopefully back in the water before too long.
This forum rocks!

That's good news. I remeber seeing her being restored (Tarted up a bit would be more accurate) in North Queensferry in the early 1990s, good to see that she's still in one piece and that someone is prepared to love her.
