Beaumaris Pier

Have I dreamt it or is there a pontoon on the end of Beaumaris pier? Can any one confirm this?
Did'nt used to be......but it is quite a few years since I last visited there. I do, however, recall catching a plaice from that pier which had locals flocking down to see it.........even the owner of the angling shop made a journey down.......it was
"MAHOOSIVE".......and was very tasty with chips and mushy peas!!

Your not dreaming. Used mainly by the trip boats.. You can overnight but need to obtain token for return access through gate.Needs to be light winds as very exposed.

Thought so! Was looking at stopping there for lunch and a quick trip in to town for the family

Might be OK at this time of year if the weather is settled, but it is busy with Angling charter boats & the regular tripper runs during the season. There are plenty of moorings around if you use a dinghy & tie it off on a long painter round the landward side, or you could drop the shoppers off & anchor in the pool while you wait for the phone call to pick them up again.

Last time I was there, decades ago, they were talking seriously about building a marina. I take it they are still talking.

RSPB put the kybosh on it I think, apparently there is a severe shortage of mud flats for birds in the area! Several hundred square miles is not apparently enough for them to relinquish a few hundred square meters. TBH, I don't believe there is that much demand for another marina either, or Port Dinorwig dock & the bay would have been dredged out years ago.

Mind you Deganwy has been built since my day and filled up pretty quickly. I think with marinas there is still an element of "build it and they will come" even though local demand is not readily apparent. I bet Beaumaris town were well up for it - it would have given the town a boost.
Wouldn't want to disturb the birdies though!
Like trying to get planning permission for a barn conversion when a bat was seen there ten years ago.(bitter experience)

Was the mussel men not the birdies
There is the main pontoon and a smaller one easier to disembark on on the west side aft of main un. You can press a button to open the gate to access the Pier itself but yer needs a key to re open to get back on the pontoon. Menai Bridge has a 24/7 pontoon or alongside the pier itself or raft up to whoever is there or the Prince Madoc

I know the spot on the Pier where you caught said fish
It' s just between a rock and a hard plaice

A few people have mentioned anchoring in the pool. Went past last weekend and virtually all the moorings are free

Yes lots of peeps haul out in Oct because of insurance issues etc, if you go 'three rows' in from the seaward side you will not dry out for sure
What size boat/type are you?
