Never mind yer old atmospheric wind, we once devised a beaufart scale which ranged from force one, slight ruffling of vicars and maiden aunts, to force ten, severe danger to vitreous china.

Force 11 - pub sign blown horizontal/ conditions on vessel untenable, sailors go ashore.

Force 12 - sailor hit by falling pub sign.

Beaufart force 11 extreme danger to seafarers if occuring the morning after a Vindaloo. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

force 1 - nobody notices
force 2 - silent and nobody knows it's you

force 8 - you wake the wife up with the noise
force 9 - you wake yourself up with the smell
