Beaucette - no bar and no restaurant!

Are you sure they didnt just lock the doors and hide behind the counter when they saw you coming?

Went last year and had some very nice food/drink and pleasant afternoon on the terrace overlooking the marina. Hope to be out there in a couple of weeks so will report back.

Over the last few weeks, decorators have been in the restaurant preparing it for the new leaseholders, whilst the outside is being beautified by the marina staff. I, too, am advised the restaurant should open mid-June.

The new patrons already have a restaurant at Oatlands and their plan is for the 'new' Beaucette Restaurant to be a top-end Bistro.

Was it iron filings in the tea and sandwiches? Er - no!

Piers what happened to the previous leaseholders? Everyone, including iirc yourself, were very impressed by their offering.

As you say, the food was really good. One day the restaurant was open, the next it was closed. It was as sudden as that. Why? I really don't know. Rumours abound. Meanwhile, Chef Patron James and his wife Val (whom we count as friends) are well and living on the island.

It seems Beaucette's URL is changing (as part of many upgrades and changes at the marina) with a new website to be launched. The new leasholder of the restaurant is mentioned here: https://beaucette.com/restaurant/

Yes I’ve seen that Piers. The website for the new restaurant as given at the bottom of that page does not exist, which doesn’t inspire confidence.

A great shame - we had many a great evening there and Val was very friendly and welcoming.

The place always seemed very busy so am surprised it has closed.

The new leaseholders place at Oatlands is very nice and I'm sure they'll do a good job at Beaucette. It's a short walk for me so the sooner the better!

I would imagine any delays or uncertainty over the opening date are due mainly to staffing. There's a huge island wide problem of recruiting and keeping good staff for low wage businesses like this due to a number of factors (local population policy, brexit, reduced attractiveness of wages and tax relative to other places etc). A number of restaurants are having to close on some days due to staff shortages and some have recently closed indefinitely. Val always struggled with this and occasionally had to close on some days. Combined with ever increasing costs and an out of the way location I got the impression is was hard going.

So taking all that into account it doesn’t look good for the new proprietors. But history does not need to repeat itself so fingers crossed it works out for them.
