Today, a dolphin was found tired and somewhat damaged from the storms in Pembroke Bay. Having been rescued by RIB and taken to Beaucette to be greeted by an ambulance and police car, it was later released into the marina where it is busy making the acquaintance of some of the boaters, and hovering the mullet to gain strength.

When it eventually leaves, maybe it will remember being looked after and return in the weeks and months ahead to see its new friends.

Piers, get your camera out, we need some pics!

We'll try to get some in the morning. We've been holed up in a St Peter Port hotel for the last three days waiting to catch the next Condor ferry to the mainland. Play d'eau's been lifted at St Sampsons for her annual clean up, and we're off to Norway and the Arctic circle to see the northern lights. Plane to catch on Sat from Gatwick.

Have a look here. It's just a baby. So where's Mum? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-guernsey-26051581

what a story and hopefully with a happy ending, mind you I dont think I would eat the marina mullet

What a shame, must have been accidentally separated from its mother. Probably too young to make it on its own as they take a long time to learn the tricks of self feeding. At least it appears to be weened if its catching mullet.
Fingers crossed for young 'Bottlecette'!

Whats the logic for relaunching the baby dolphin in Beaucette? Surely the dolphin's only hope for long term survival is to reconnect with it's pod in which case shouldn't it have been relaunched in Pembroke? I must say that if I was a mullet in Beaucette, I'd be pretty pissed. One day I'm happily grazing on poo from holding tank outlets, the next day I'm cannon fodder for some bloody great big monster fish that somebody's thoughtlessly lobbed into the marina
PS yes I know dolphins aren't fish!

Hi Everyone. At five feet long, 'Peter' as he's become known, appears well and strong. He'd been a bit battered by the sea and strong winds against the pebbly beach but the only visual damage was a bloodied nose. Yes, he was tired, but the animal guys on the island were happy he was re-launched in Beaucette where the water is much calmer for his recovery.

The only issue now is stopping visitors from bringing fish to feed him. He's not a pet and needs to remain wild. I've been told some pics will be sent to me for posting.
