Bearer mount

I am presuming that the GRP bearer shell/moulding that volvo penta engine/saidrive combos sit on is glassed into the hull in most installations. Is that correct?

Are they hollow? I've never seen one before fitting.

Is drilling a couple of holes into the bearer to mount a bracket for ancilleries okay?
Any reason not to?

Yes they are hollow but quite thick. Supplied by Volvo and bonded into the hull by the builder
