The correlation of baldness and beardiness is quite simple. By the time you have reached a stage of wisdom and insight (some never reach it, Jimi) sufficient to have lost your hair through the overheating mechanism mentioned above, you have the wisdom necessary to realise that shaving is a huge waste of sleeping time, not to mention beer tokens for the equipment.
