Re: Have to disagree

i know which ones now, i thought there were some specially marked ones for banks but ive seen the line of red/orange/yellow whatever ones stretching out from the beach thought they were general moorings.

Re: Have to disagree

So what's the plan for this barbie?

I'll probably go watch the round the island race for a bit earlier on, and see if I can't get in the way of some of the race leaders just for fun. I love it when they wave and holler greetings, they're such a friendly bunch

Is someone bringing a big oil drum type barbie, or do we all bring our own?

Re: Have to disagree

Intersting, those BA bouys not shown on chart and not shown on the Navionics chart in the plotter. Both the paper and Navionics the latest editions.

Re: Have to disagree

The Bankes Arms bouys are not on the charts because they're private mooring bouys, and not navigational. They're tucked in the very extreme southwest corner of Studland, probably 150m from the south and west cliffs. Don't confuse them with the line of yellow bouys - they mark the 280m line, inside which there is an 8 knot speed limit.

I have no recollection what colour the damn things are. However, I can definitely confirm that they are round. The pub is ashore (no, really), more or less due west from the bouys, and about 200m inland.

Re: Have to disagree

true. Cept there is a 6 knot speed limit according to the lickle signs on the yellow markers. And that's too fast if it is dead flat, imho.

they are not that far south - some are at least 400m along the beach, opp the road walkway up to pub. Also they say "Banks Arms" onnem. Or some of them.

Re: I stand corrected

Christchurch/Avon Beach is 8 knots inside the yellow bouys... Didn't realise the Bankes Arms ones extended that far along the beach. Agree re speed limits, but depends on how many boats are in. Also, the waterskiers tend to use the damn things as a slalom course which doesn't help.

Re: Have to disagree

Don't know anything about a plan..........subject to wind (mainly direction) , sun and SWMBO I hope to be in the area, with some food and some wine and some (!) disposable bbqs. May or may not stay over - again the above are all factors!
I don't mind wether we raft and bbq on the boat, all go ashore or a mixture.
Weekends are not for detailed planning - have enough of that during the week!
I will of course have a passage plan .............../forums/images/icons/smile.gif

BBQ on the boat? Not if you're rafted next to me, mate! Well, unless you've got one of those rail mounted stainless thingies, anyway...

After three weeks with no boating Saturday is looking good for me.

Weather good, no committments for kids, boat all repaired and even wife asking if we are going out. Will launch from Lymington or Christchurch at about midday then head on over to Studland. I've never been to Bankes Arms but looks good.

See you there.
