Can the Brains Trust please tell me if there is anything I can treat my duo-prop with, that will discourage these little bleeders. Boat hasn't been used for 8 wks and both the props and leg were covered with them as was the bi-data transducer. Spent 3/4hr in my waders scraping them off this afternoon.
As they apparently don't like fresh water would it be any use to hose them down when the tide is out, or does this take a while to work ?

had to haul out myself and scrape/jet wash/scrape
lanolin has been suggested for props - mixed comments on the boards of late as to effectiveness.
Now the warmer water is here I will pop over the side more often to cool down - with a scouring pad - and get 'em early!

Hi

I think it was posted some months ago that if your boat is in sea water all the time you need to have it in fresh water for at least 24 hours for it to have any real effect if my memory serves me correctly

Dave.

One option which is effective is to enclose the Prop in a dark plastic carrier bag when leaving the boat for a while. This I realise is only an option if it is easy to reach the Prop.

The freshwater is worth a try....I had a mud-berth next to a drain from the quay & saw very few of them compared to boats further away from the freshwater.

My engineer swears by lard on props, seriously. he did mine at the beginning of the season and have had no barnacles at all, although they have colonised the antifoul - seems to work.
