Dear fonts of all knowledge
I'm currently in the process of making an offer on a Bayliner Capri (2002) model which i had the opportunity to take out for a test run today.
My question is the steering was extremely difficult to turn, and required both hands to turn it. Whilst i appreciate the age of the vessel, is this normal??.
The steering is via a cable (6/8mm thick)
Many thanks

knock a £150 off the price as it will cost that to get a new one and fit it yourself.you maybe able to lube it up but it will need completely removing from the boat and a can of wd40 might help.if its freyed it will need replacing.

in board or outboard? We have the outboard with cable /worm drive steering. I replaced it after the old one died of old age. One option might be to replace it with hydraulic steering. Nik

Thanks for reply. She is an inboard engine (3ltr), and from what i believe it should be fitted with power steering, just not absolutely sure. Maybe an option to fit one!!

Hi Good Morning,
The boat you are looking at should have power steering as standard. It should not be stiff to turn.
Dependant on the price being asked either walk away and get them to correct the problem and sea trial again or knock £1000 off the price. A power steering pump would be around £300.00 fitted and a steering ram more as I think the engine may have to come out - not 100% sure.
In short - it is not right - there are uaually lots of small Bayliners on E-Bay - got one myself - a 1996 2052 Capri cuddy version - 4.3LX.

Regards
