Loooking at buying a Bayliner 2155, 2255, 2355, or 2455 that needs a replacement engine. Would like to replace the engine with a diesel one of reasonable power, does anyone know if this is possible and at what cost to expect.

If you are thinking of replacing a V8 petrol with a diesel, then you might have been considering a GM V8 diesel from Samurai. This gives about 190bhp, costs about £5500. BUT DO A SEARCH ON THESE FORUMS FOR 'SAMURAI' FIRST. You have been warned.

The best diesel engine for this job (by far) is the 240Hp Yanmar (or indeed lower HP for the smaller Bayliners) and yes, they can be made to fit. Make sure that the outdrive is in good nick though.

As said below GM V8's are available and are good bomb-proof motors. You can buy new as well as recon from Samurai, so this should take some of the worry away.

Dont be put off by folks who knock Bayliner. You get a lot of boat for your money 'cos Bayliner build to economies of scale that other yards can only dream of! Look out for the flybridge versions ie 2456. Loads of room and cheap as chips.

Hi, had a 21'' Fairline re-engined last year with a Volvo Kad32 170hp. 30+knots, I know not everyone is a Volvo fan but i've had no complaints.
