Not sure how many here read the Liveaboard Forum but there is an discussion going on where the above would help...

As well as helping with the specific incident, as noone seems to know, I thought it might be a good idea to see if anybody here might know.

Given that we generally agree to warranties in our insurance policies related to "The Bay Of Biscay" or "Biscay", without the insurance company making clear exactly what "Biscay" or "crossing Biscay" means, I certainly want to make it my business to know.

I'm guessing that there must be some legal precedents, even if the insurance companies do not define it precisely.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Richard

lots of peeps read liveaboard. Many have done Biscay. Not sure why the forum divide is being perpetuated, as mobos and raggies have done it, and insurance issues sorted

Brendan.... my first thought was that you had pressed a couple of keys and come up with the answer <g>

Not quite sure whether your post is a criticism?

I'm sure lots read liveaboard, (both mobo'ers and raggies), so I am a bit surprised that no-one has come up with a more definitive answer than a bit of a guess at the weather area.

I Ummed and Ahhed for quite some time about whether to ask this in another forum.. didnt think it suited PBO, (although it might), so plumped for here..... definitely no desire to promulgate any divide, more a desire not to cross post.

My main interest was to try and find an answer, or at least some guidance... maybe one day I, (and others), will have to make some decisions based not only on the weather and the immediate safety of the vessel and crew, but also on the contents of my insurance policy.

In the particular example, it would seem that if they had abandoned ship on 31st October, within reach of Coruna on that same day, the insurance company wouldnt have had the get out that they are using, (they may have found another).

Personally I would rather consider these issues here, than have to make some serious decisions in the heat of the moment.

Not sure what you mean by "insurance issues sorted"?

Cheers

Richard

I'm insured with Pantaenius and it took one short phone call to endorse my policy with a westward extension for my Spain to Ireland trip - 12W IIRC. They are not the cheapest but they are incredibly easy to deal with and everyone I have spoken to there seems to understand boats.

Only in your mind I think.

What an extraordinary reaction to a perfectly reasonable question.
