I went to view some yachts today as I am considering turning part raggie, I had heard as previously mentioned on another thread about the new 40Vison, 44Vison and 50Vision due to be launched later in the year, so thought I would have a look at the present workmanship on the cruiser range. I know there must be some Bavaria owners on the forum so I will be diplomatic in my comments, but aren't they like a plastic mould with a bit of timber splattered around inside? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I was also terrified to see daylight through the rear transom, viewed through the rear berth rear panels, that was scary, the hull must be very thin if you can see through it, tissue paper sprung to mind /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I tried my best to like at least one of the three out of a 37,39 and 42 cruisers, the 39fter came the closest, but the use of the fake wood plastic around the hatches and around the chart table was at best Chav like. I asked about the keels falling off, and it seemed a possiblility after seeing the liberal use of mastic inside, but was told only certain models in the 'match range' had that, and that the new ones don't fall off. I thought I would ask what would happen if one did fall off, the guy was honest and said it would roll over /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Anyway, I have come out with mixed views, I don't really want to spend weekends in an elongated soap dish, but the other option in the 40 plus ft range i.e. Island Packet and Halberg look scarily expensive for a first boat. Perhaps the Vision model will be better /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Could anyone advise me on what would be say the next level up in boats after the Bavaria, one with a bit of style perhaps?

Thanks,

Have you considered buying a couple of these? They're probably still hanging around in Antibes if you want to put in an offer. As a bonus, you'll have space to stow away the beauty salon /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Bavaria Troll

OK, need some help, what is necessary as an extra on a Bav 39, and what is nice to have? I am looking at the spec and I am confused with some of the sails (in line reefing), bigger engine, bow thruster and heating (4 vents) would these be useful ? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Bavaria Troll

Don't bother with the sails. If you swap the 260hp engines from your present boat you'll find it handy. I'm sure you'll find somewhere to fit some patio doors.

Re: Bavaria Troll

Drop the stick off the top and it shouldn't matter too much if you loose the bit on the bottom ... especially if you swap in those 260hp engines ...
Might need to upgrade the steering controls with that much power though...

Not sure where the toaster goes ...

Re: Bavaria Troll

Order only what will be complicate to install later such as bilge pumps in bathroom(s) , holding tank .Autopilot , chartplotter VHF, radio etc. is much cheaper to instal after delivery by yourself.

Re: Bavaria Troll

Good advice, I have been going through the spec sheet this morning and comparing like for like with the Island Packet 370, I must say I am at a loss how they can charge so much for basic extra's, £9k for a 65ltr hour water maker is mad. I just do not have the experience in saill choices, gadgets no problem, I just wonder if I am ready for all this or could I become a lethal out of control soap dish in the Solent if my in mast sail got stuck out whilst out in a force 7? (This came up in my risk assessment)
