I've seen this image before and find it very disturbing.

It looks far too much like a stinkie with a stick.

I was saying the same thing a couple of weeks ago i.e. yacht designs are converging (like cars).

Sorry, the photos are on the web of the Norwegian agent www.sailboat.no/sailboat. But I'm sure that BAV will find a photo in a month or two and post it! They are not known for speedy web updates! The BAV 37 -3 cab still shows the wrong interior layout in the forecabin. I have one, could not afford a newish Fisher, it will take a few years i suppose to find out if it is well built!
 
Rather curious that a lot of boats are now taking on this style, you will of course be familiar with the Etap 46DS that came out about 18months ago? As a reminder here is a link to the Etap web site.

I know these designs take a long time to come to life but there is no escaping the similarity and fact that Etap were there first, is there?
 
Did I not read copy somewhere that the tear-drop style of windows would soon become dated?

You are closer to this than me, I know you tested the 46Ds, when did Elan introduce this design? Do you think Sile Beritone did a sneak spy job on them. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

How come you have'nt reviewed the Elan, never hear of them in YM?
 
So might Jeanneau, they have been doing these types of boats for a few years but label them deck saloons. We picked the Jeanneau 43DS as the boat we wanted 5 yrs ago (but only bought it 2 yrs ago) mainly for its light and airy feel. The jeanneau 49 & 54 has a newer eyebrow look that some may prefer. The Elan was next to follow this trend.

I have found that SWMBO really hated a well restored westerly as it was dark inside (size of portholes & dark mahogany). She liked the Beneteau with its roof light and light interior also the Elan 434. I suspect the trend will be to lighter and more airy feel to the interiors if my SWMBO is anything to go by.

I currently want to try the Finngulf 46 & the Acona 46 for their sailing qualities but have reservations as to whether SWMBO will accept the smaller window area.

I know people like to knock Bavarias but they do sell well so they must have both the product and a price thats attractive
 
If you are talking about the panoramic window, Etap started to fit them in the late 80's! Just look at the 28i 32i 35i and 38i.

I agree, so do others who visit our boat, people always comment how light and airy it is inside. I can also keep watch when I go below!
 
Good questions all. I sailed the 46 in Croatia in a flat calm with pouring rain and decided it wasn't worth publishing. Since then there has been some local difficulty in getting a test set up. It's definitely a gap in our coverage.

I think the Elan predated the Etap in launch terms by a year. In design terms Bertone and Humphreys were probably working at similar times.
 
Makes you wonder though, how many designs are shared, I cant believe these people dont talk to each other, trade shows etc, it happens in most industries.
