Bavaria 50 V. Oceanis 500 (or 510)

I am looking to purchase a secondhand Bavaria 50 or Beneteau Oceanis 500 or 510 for private use and charter. Can anyone offer real advice and experience on how these yachts compare?

I think it is down to personal preference, but there are a lot of pros and cons to weigh. The cost of bringing her up to DTI Coding specifications for one. I think you will certainly get a better stability coding on the Bavaria. We have a Bavaria 430 Caribic, and had her coded for charter two years ago and got the highest available stability rating. I hear it is not so with all the Beneteau's.

Secondly, don't be fooled into thinking this is the way to own a large yacht and have it paid for. The running costs involved in keeping a charter yacht outweigh the profit from charters. The market demand doesn't keep up with the outgoings. Our bookings just about cover the year's mooring fees, the rest is out of pocket spendings - advertising, upkeep etc etc.
