Just got back from a wonderful weekend in Cowes. Sun shining and flat sea. It was only a short hop for us as we're berthed on the Hamble.

I've always found it most comfortable to run both engines at around 3200rpm that gives me circa 24 knots depending on sea state / currents ect. The Kad32's were running well and the superchargers got us on the plane easily as usual but I couldn't get the revs to go above 3000rpm and had a top speed of 19 knots (going across on Saturday and returning home today both at slack water). The boat hadn't been used for about 5 weeks and there is a very small amount of growth / slime on her bottom but I find it hard to believe this could be the cause?? We didn't encounter this problem last season.

Any ideas / suggestions would be gratefully received.

Paul

Thanks for the reply. The outdrives have some growth on them. The props (burnished at the start of the season) have an extremely fine slime like growth on them (no actual weed growth). Would this, in your opinion be enough to have slowed us down?

Regards
Paul

You'd be surprised how little fouling it takes to reduce performance. Clean hull, drives and props before going any further.

Yes .
It's just got a few 100 ,s lbs ft of torque ----- not a few 1000 ,s .

Not sure that slime reduces rpm at WOT but happy to be corrected. I would have a look at the pre filters.

20180223_142713_resized.jpg Yes, this!! Was berthed on the Hamble last year and despite the outdrives being antifouled and the props cleaned at the start of the season it only took a few months to look like this (although we did have 5 weeks of non use due to some personal circumstances). High pressure wash and a good scrub of the props with some wire wool (pan scourer) and we were back up to 32 knots! Just been through the same again this season... Paul
