Hi,
Im trying to install Raymarine autopilot ev-100 wheel drive version to my Bavaria 32 2010 for some time and I need some advise on a problem.
Evolution Autopilot System Packs - EV-100 Sail Pack | Raymarine
Skiping all other connections and installations, for the wheel drive installation, I need a space between pedestal and steering wheel.
As you may see on the pictures, there is not enough space between them. (engine controls also need to move, I've a solution for that)
I'm considering the options below;
- cutting upper part of the pedestal and putting a flat material ( It'll be ugly)
- finding a way to extend metal part connects steering wheel to steering system (how?)
- finding another steering wheel somehow have different angle, connection etc?

So the question is, is there anyone out there installed ev100 to 2010+ bavaria 32 or encountered same problem in another boat?

Thanks in advance.

There should be enough room unless Raymarine have made to drive thicker than the earlier ones. First you need to make a new flat instrument panel because the lower tilted part gets in the way. Then you need the bulkhead mounting kit, which is a plastic moulding having a round base with screw holes and a pin to engage with the drive. The height of the pin will need to be adjusted by cutting it to length - the instructions tell you how to do it. You may need a bracket on the side of the binnacle as it is not quite wide enough to take the base (or at least is was on my 37 which had the same binnacle). The motor goes to the bottom left and you need to cut a hole for it. In that position it is furthest away from the compass and it does not hit anything inside the binnacle.

Hope this helps - a bit of a faff but it makes sense once you work through it. Good idea to have a look at other Bavarias of the same vintage as all had the same binnacle and most up to 36' would have a wheel drive pilot.

Sorry no. Sold the boat 6 years ago. Might be worth giving Clipper Marine a call as there could still be somebody there who remembers fitting them when the boats were new.

I did mine . sure I put on the forum a few years a go.
Give me a couple of days and I'll try to find ( or retake) the photos.
Tranona has given you all the basic.
The most awkward one is "flatening" the sloping plastic panel.
Basically cut the sides and bottom out the moulding out, bend the panel flat and fix with polystyrene cement glue.

Sounds very promising, I'll really appreciate if you can send some pictures.

Cant you get a new shaft for the wheel, it should all come apart relatively easily once you get into the binnacle, then an engineering workshop should be able to make one up relatively easily.
