I am looking to buy a cheap electric cool box which will plug in to a cigarette lighter type socket. Only problem is that I am concerned that it will discharge the battery. (not really a problem as I do have a second battery to start the engine but still would prefer not to have one battery totally flat)

Is it possible to buy a device which plugs in to the socket which will switch off the cool box (or any other device for that matter) if the voltage drops below a certain level? I know that I can get a cool box with built in protection but these are a lot more expensive. Tesco's are selling very basic electric cool boxes for £29.99!!

Many thanks

Towsure (www.towsure.com) will supply a device called a "MOBITRONIC Low Voltage Protector", which plugs in line between the coolbox and the battery. The description says that it protects your battery by cutting the supply at 11.6 volts. It costs under £8.

... of course, 11.6 volts might be a bit low ... I'm sure someone will know.
