I'm thinking of getting a battery monitor because I had a failure on my recharging circuit and I only found out when my domestic batteries failed me. I have a system of voltage sensitive relays so my engine batteries are charged first and then the domestic batteries get topped up.
My point is that I'm not really bothered by the amount of current I'm drawing but I want to know if the voltage is dropping (when the engine is running) because then I can do something about it.
My question is how useful is it to know what current you are drawing or really is checking the battery voltage good enough? If knowing the voltage is good enough then an accurate voltmeter will be a lot cheaper.
