I don't know if the idea is sound or not but thought I'd put in on as the circuit itself seems sound enough. Not sure it's really worth the effort but might be of interest to somone on here

There's also an article in this month's Everyday Electronics. Been caught a time or two with some of their projects that don't work - dodgy circuit or unobtainable components.

Thanks for that - I've been looking for desulphator info for a while. Something to be building next winter - or over a rainy summer!

I have a Magpulse which repaired a small lead acid gel for a hand-held searchlight and now have it across my generator/main batteries. It causes terrible interference with the radios and the battery 'contents' and current meter so I have wired it via a relay so I can turn it off remotely when it causes trouble.

Am I to understand that it is possible to revive a dead GEL battery as well as a conventional unit or am I asking the impossible here?

I have a dead.ish gel battery, but have ebeen reluctant to chuck it out.

Following the link that savageseadog posted, I came across the same site as Tangofour's and indeed had ordered a basic kit, for £20.50, so glad to read his subsequent recommendation

On the Courtiestown site, one of the pages indicates that gel batteries could be recovered, but needed to be rehydrated. Also plenty of warnings that the kit can't perform miracles- if still basically sound but discharged, it should work, but it cant reanimate a dead battery eg where a cell is actually shot.

Post edit- I am sure I read about rehydrating gel batteries on that site, but try as I might, I cannot relocate it, so perhaps take my comment under advisement!

I have now located the item and it was another link from the shaka.com site and contrary to my original post above, it seems as if gel batteries are not helped by pulsing, tho it does confirm rehdrating can be done & may revive them.
Link is here:

Sorry for the confusion /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If the gel battery has died due to sulphation then it will probably help. More often, gels tend to dry out due to overcharging, it seems, and then the desulphator will not help.
