Battery charging

For my sail boat I bought an outboard engine Yamaha four stroke 25hp. In the engine specification there is written that the maximum capacity of battery shouldn’t exceed 70 Ah. My needs are much higher and I would like to use at least 150 Ah battery. Beside alternator I am using also solar panels to charge the batteries.

Please advise me what type of battery should I use?
Is there any additional equipment needed that will protect the engine starter and alternator?
Thank you for your advise

I've had same problem. I think it is because a bigger battery will draw to much current fron the charger which isn't a normal bolt on alternator suggest you check with manufacturers. The only solutions I thought of where a seperate generator to charge ships battery and use outboard for start batt' or a switch so that the two batteries could be charges in sequence.

I have a Honda 30 HP that puts out 10 amps. It's wired to two 105 amp batteries that are wired together - (I know, they should be wired seperate etc. but I can hand start the engine). I have never had a problem. When in a marina I top up the batteries from the mains. I would use the best deep cycle batteries possible that you can afford. It saves agro and works out cheaper in the long run.
