All,

Need to replace my charger...

2x Battery Banks @ approx 220AH (Domestic and Start).

Came Across this one from TBB power, which seams good value..

in comparison with..

http://www.yachtbits.com/sterling_power/sterling_24v_25_amp_digital_battery_charger.php

Both have the key elements of:

- steppeds charging curve
- recycle charging, getting rid of possible sulphation
- Isolated multiple bank output
- Simultaneously recharging and power supply
- DC Power Supply Function
- 110V AC and 220V AC
- protection against charger over temp, battery over temp, short cut, overload, reverse polarity etc.
- surge protector
- automatic temperature compensation with the temperature sensor.

Is thee anything else I need to consider in a charger??

Just seems silly to pay ot another £100 to get a unit from a "Marine" setup.. if it does the same job... or am I missing something??

Charger being replaced is a 30AH unit (unrepairable) that have lasted at least 15 years where the new one will be installed... relatively dry, at the stern of the boat and several meters away from the cabin, so not worried about noize from cooling fans etc.

I had to replace mine last year (12v 40A) and went with Sterling Pro Logic. Very happy with it so far. Did manage to get it for a very good price, though the equivilant TBB may well have still been cheaper.

I did give Sterling a call prior to purchase to query the recommended cable sizes as I felt them to be over specced. The techie on the phone knew his stuff and was very helpful. He confirmed that my proposed cable specs for distance run would be perfectly fine.

The support they gave stopped me looking elsewhere. There again, a hundred quid's a hundred quid!

I bought the Sterling 1250 12v charger plus the remote panel from Yachtbits.
Their service is second to none & the price asked was the cheapest I could find by quite some margin. It all turned up in super quick time & I'm more than impressed with it.

We also fitted a Sterling Digital 1240 early in the winter, wasn't cheap but local chandler knocked a bit off to help.

Pete
