Battery cable

Hi.

I recently replaced what looked like my original battery cables in my 1981 Johnson 50hp. I used 25mm2 marine cable, which seems fine. However the cable I replaced had another white sleeving over it.

Am I ok with what I've done, or do I also need to add this sleeving?

Battery cable is usually "thin wall". Perhaps the sleeving was added to give addition protection where the cables might be subjected to chafe. ( or exposure to UV ???)

The battery cables do not appear to be listed Johnson / Evinrude parts

I wondered whether it might be heat related? The cable is rated to 70deg C.

This is why I try to use welding cable at the insulation is much thicker than normal cable as welding cable is subject to more chafe due to it being dragged across the floor when welding in the real world.
