Greetings All!

Would anyone be able to recommend the size of cable I need for relocating my battery 5m away from the engine on my RIB. The cable length will be 5m, the engine is a Mariner 60 with electric start and power tilt.

Looking at the cables available. 25mm = 170A, 40mm = 300A and 50mm = 345A

I would love to get by with the 25mm sq but like my electric start

Regards
Cameron

25sqmm should be fine...

If your battery is 5m away, you actually have 10m of cable in the circuit. The Mariner 60 is about a 1 litre 4-stroke engine, so the starter motor's probably only about 800 or 900 watts, say 70 amps. With 70A going 10m along 25sq mm wire, the voltage drop will be about 0.5V, which should be acceptable.

Many Thanks PVB

Small detail possibly, my Mariner is about 13 years old and is a 3 cyl 2 stroke. Dont really see this detail making a difference so 25 mm it is!!!
