Hi Guys

Removed my batteries today to find I have a bit of water in the bottom of one of my battery compartment (plastic battery box). Is there anyway of testing this liquid to see if its acid from the battery or rain water? The compartment does have a lid, but does have a couple of vent holes in the top, so it could be rain water.

I was tempted to dip my tongue, but decided it may not be a wise move;)

Cheers Gareth

Litmus probably so sensitve that it will turn red anyway if there is just a trace of acidity.

Bicarbonate (or washing soda) will fizz vigorously with battery acid.

Taste ....... well yes I'd do that.

Couple of minutes cleans the oxide off a copper coin.

If its water it will dry up, if its acid it wont.

If you think the battery is leaking look around the joint between the case and the top. That's where mine started to leak ... Not very old either ... was intended to see me out!
I reckon the tops are only held on with double sided Cellotape
