Battery Acid

Are there any paints which are resistant to battery acid? I need to coat the interior of a plywood battery box and would appreciate suggestions

Pretty much any oil or solvent based paint I would have thought. Floor paint?

[/ QUOTE ]You need something absolutely impervious to moisture or the acid will get into the wood (I have experience /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ). Danbolene might work or brush gelcoat over the inside. Starting from scratch I would prefer to have a glassfibre or moulded plastic battery container.

I would coat in west system (or similar) epoxy, a pigment can be added if you want a particular colour. Not only it is resistant to battery acid but will also completly seal the ply from any moisture ingress.

Butyl rubber paint is the stuff to use.

agree any rubber based paint is ideal. Car underseal works well!

I have an epoxy floor paint on a garage floor and battery acid went through it with ease, so although the box will be epoxy coated I think that adding rubber paint is worth doing. Of course, I never expect to spill any acid there anyway!
