does anyone care to share their opinions on batteries ("domestic", deep cycle, about 130-140Ah):
-where would you buy them?
-which make?
-AGM or gel?

many thanks

For domestice side I use wet lead acid "lesiure" batteries; biggest I have readily found is 110AH; usually cheapest from a caravan dealer; these usually £65-70 ish each. I have just installed a Red Flash AGM engine starter battery to allow me to add the old engine battery to the domestic bank - added too many goodies & concerned about storage capacity!

Truck batteries designed for tail lift duty. Suitable for deep discharge or engine starting (eg in emergency). Standard wet cell so no charging issues. Available terminals either side.

Pay about 50p / Ah from any truck battery specialist.

Have you thought about paralleling two smaller batteries ? This is what I am intending to do as I wouldl like to remove them over winter and I'd rather make two trips with lighter batteries than one hernia inducing trip with a big bu66er when it is time to lay up.

Did a bit of research on this among the cruisers in Oz last year before replacing mine, obviously you get different prices obver there so may not be the right answer.

Most US boats and increasing numbers of Ozzie ones go with Trojan 6v golf cart batteries and wire up 2 in series to get the 12v. They are rated at 220Ah last very very well and have charging curves that are ideal for yachts.

I sourced mine by looking up Trojan on the web and looking for their worldwide dealers on the Trojan site. Batteries aren't big and you get plenty of grunt.
